Cone Beam 3D Dental Imaging

Dental cone beam computed tomography (also known as cone beam CT) is a special type of x-ray that is necessary when regular dental or facial x-rays do not apply to the facial condition being treated. Your doctor may use this technology to produce accurate, efficient, three-dimensional images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. With cone beam CT, an x-ray beam in the shape of a cone is moved around the patient to produce a large number of non-invasive 3D images for a higher-quality evaluation than 2D traditional X-Rays. This makes it much easier to analyze the issue and make an accurate diagnosis, allowing for successful treatment planning and completion of in-depth surgery. CEPH x-ray helps our dentist select the course of action for the patient.

Digital X-rays

Throughout the past few decades, dental technology has seen a drastic advancement as the need for more precise diagnostic tools has increased. This includes the digitization of X-ray technology. Offering superior resolution with less radiation exposure, digital radiography at your Pittsburgh dentist is an excellent way to help diagnose oral problems. Digital X-rays not only use 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays but are also much less time-consuming, making them one of the most important advancements in modern dentistry.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a small video camera that takes an image of the outside of the gum or tooth. The intraoral camera resembles an oversized pen. While simultaneously viewing a monitor, the dentist inserts the camera into a patient's mouth and gently shifts it about so that images can be taken from a variety of angles.

iTero Dental Impressions

The iTero® Intraoral Scanner is a cutting edge imaging tool that allows doctors to take a 3D digital scan of a patient’s teeth and bite using a non-intrusive wand rather than a viscous impression material. This simple digital impression scanner can be used for veneers, crowns, bridges, surface inlays, onlays, implant abutments from single units to full arches and even modeling an Invisalign treatment. Patients are also able to instantly view high quality, clear “before” and simulated “after” images of their dental treatments on an in-office computer display.
