Pittsburgh Implant Supported Dentures
If you have lost most of your teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay, or an oral injury, implant supported dentures may be the best way to restore your teeth and protect your oral health. At North Hills Family Dental, Dr. Mauro has years of experience with dental implants and implant supported dentures, such as All-On-Four. With his communicative approach and skillful hand, you’ll feel confident throughout the process and with your results.
Implant Supported Dentures
Implant supported dentures are very different from traditional dentures, which fit over your gums and are held in place using friction and dental adhesive. Instead, implant supported dentures attach directly to a series of 4-6 dental implants, which are placed permanently in your upper and/or lower jaw.
The dentures “snap” into place over the dental implants, which hold them in place and prevent them from shifting and moving. The dental implants provide a solid, strong hold for the dentures, making them look and feel much more natural.
Restore Teeth Permanently
All-On-Four is a type of permanent dental bridge. While implant supported dentures are removable, All-On-Four is not. All-On-Four uses four dental implants for the upper, lower, or both arches of teeth.
Then, instead of using a traditional denture to attach to the implants, Dr. Mauro will manufacture a permanent, porcelain dental bridge. This natural-looking bridge is cemented to the implants and placed into your mouth permanently.
This option has a number of benefits for patients looking to replace missing teeth. You don’t need to remove All-On-Four to care for them, and you can simply brush and floss normally to keep your bridges in good shape. All-On-Four also feels more natural than dentures, because the bridges are permanently attached to your implants.
Of Implant Supported Dentures
Both implant supported dentures and All-On-Four have a number of similar benefits:
- Preserves your gum and jaw – Because dental implants allow you to put pressure on the gum and jaw bone, your jaw will maintain its strength and will not deteriorate. This is not the case with traditional dentures, which do not prevent gum and jaw resorption.
- No more irritation of gum tissue – Because traditional dentures contact the gum tissue directly, minor irritation is common among many patients who wear dentures. This is not a concern with implant supported dentures and All-On-Four.
- Improves speech and confidence – You will be able to speak without worrying about your dentures shifting or affecting your speech. You can also eat and chew without fear, which helps restore your confidence.
- Fewer dietary restrictions – You can apply more bite force with All-On-Four and implant supported dentures, making it easier to chew hard or tough foods, and broadening your dietary options.
